Eight & Bob: The Fragrance House Built on One Remarkable Story

Some brands invent stories. Eight & Bob simply tells the one that changed everything.

Steeped in French heritage, timeless elegance and impeccable craftsmanship, Eight & Bob traces its origins back to the early twentieth century, when Parisian aristocrat Albert Fouquet quietly created exceptional fragrances for himself and his close circle of friends. Never intended for commercial sale, his perfumes became one of Europe's best-kept secrets, worn only by those fortunate enough to know him.

What followed is one of the most extraordinary stories in modern perfumery. A chance encounter on the French Riviera with a young John F. Kennedy would transform Albert's private creation into one of the world's most iconic niche fragrance houses.

The Brand

Albert Fouquet was more than a perfumer; he was a true connoisseur. The son of a Parisian aristocratic family, he devoted countless hours to perfecting fragrances from a workshop hidden within his family's château, assisted only by Philippe, the family butler.

Rather than creating perfumes for business, Albert crafted scents purely for personal enjoyment. His fragrance became something of a legend within French high society, admired for its refinement yet impossible to purchase.

In the summer of 1937, while holidaying along the Côte d'Azur, Albert met a charismatic young American student named John F. Kennedy. Captivated by Albert's fragrance, Kennedy convinced him to leave behind a sample before returning to the United States.

Weeks later, Albert received a letter requesting eight bottles "and, if your production allows, another one for Bob." Amused by the wording, Albert prepared the shipment and labelled the box exactly as written.

Eight & Bob was born.

The Experience

The story could have ended there, but Kennedy's bottle quickly found its way into some of America's most influential circles. Requests soon arrived from Hollywood legends including Cary Grant and James Stewart, all eager to own the mysterious fragrance everyone was talking about.

Although Albert tragically passed away before the perfume could reach a wider audience, the original formula and meticulous production methods were preserved and eventually revived decades later, allowing Eight & Bob to once again become one of the world's most exclusive fragrance houses.

Today, the collection embodies everything that made Albert's creations so admired: understated luxury, exceptional raw materials and timeless sophistication with a contemporary touch.

One of the brand's most distinctive ingredients is the rare "Andrea" plant, discovered by Albert during his travels through the Chilean Andes. Harvested only during a brief seasonal window and subjected to an incredibly rigorous selection process, just a small percentage of the crop is deemed suitable for production. This rare botanical remains at the heart of the original fragrance and contributes to the limited production that has become synonymous with Eight & Bob.

From the legendary Original to the refined compositions within The Fouquet Collection  every fragrance carries the same effortless elegance that first captivated the world's most discerning clientele.

Why We Love It

Because Eight & Bob reminds us that true luxury never needs to shout.

It's a brand built on heritage, craftsmanship and one unforgettable story, yet its fragrances feel remarkably relevant today. Elegant without feeling old-fashioned, sophisticated without being intimidating, each scent has the quiet confidence of something designed to stand the test of time.

At Fragrance Artisans, we love Eight & Bob because every bottle feels like discovering a beautifully kept secret. Rich in history, impeccably crafted and endlessly wearable, these are fragrances that prove the greatest stories are often the ones that actually happened.
